Listening Furniture

Listening Furniture is a sound and vibration sculpture that offers an experience of deep immersive listening. The work arises from the desire of making a reflective space where sound can be felt as well as heard by exploring listening that is not limited to the ears, but also the rest of the body.

Embedded speakers translate sound into vibration which can be felt by lying down, sitting at the edge or placing your hand on it. The full haptic-sonic experience is only available through direct bodily contact, but the piece remains accessible to viewers who prefer to sit or stand nearby. For some, it feels like sinking. For others, like floating. Some remember a voice from a dream, the hum of a radiator, the rhythm of passing trains. Others feel only a low warmth. What you receive is always partial, always changing. This fragmented listening mirrors the shape of memory: shifting, sensory, and sometimes difficult to name.

Inspired by magical realism, where ordinary objects possess strange capacities, Listening Furniture treats the object as a threshold, an entry point into another layer of reality or an inner realm, where sound arrives not as a message, but as a visitor: subtle, familiar, unsettling. This work isn't about finding answers. It is about your attention, your body and whatever you carry quietly within yourself.

Currently the sculpture is the size of a single bed but future iterations will be scaled up to host 20-30 people. We imagine that it might take the shape of a large single sculpture or a combination of different sizes and shaped furniture where people can decide whether to sit, lie, stand or cuddle inside.
